Status
A common species, found throughout the county. Most authorities now
consider this and the Small Engrailed to be a single species and it has
been treated as such in Montgomeryshire from 2024. It should also be
noted that although the flight graph shows three distinct flight
periods in Montgomeryshire, Engrailed has in fact been recorded in
every month of the year.

Habitat
Mostly broadleaf woodland, but also found in scrub, hedgerows, parks
and gardens.

Many species of broadleaved trees and shrubs.

Overwinters as a pupa underground. Larva April-June and late July-early
